ABOUT THIS INSTRUMENT

To celebrate 20 years of building nylon string instruments, Cordoba has created this gorgeous 20th Anniversary model. Only five will be made, each hand-crafted in Cordoba’s premier California workshop.

The guitar features a solid Englemann spruce top, solid Madagascar rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard, Madagascar rosewood bridge, and cedar neck. The Englemann spruce top contributes a percussive clarity, without sacrificing the guitar’s tonal sweetness.

Designed to produce a “Spanish” sound while maintaining a modern feel, the 20th Anniversary guitar has a big, dynamic sound with deep lows and piano-like highs. Each note is punchy and resonant. When played softly, it can be sweet and airy, but with plenty of headroom so you can dig in deep for big aggressive tones.

As a salute to the history of classical guitar making, the shape of the instrument is borrowed from the iconic Hauser guitar, the original of which has been called “the greatest guitar of our epoch.”

In a nod to more modern guitar building, Cordoba workshop head Andrew Enns modified the Hauser’s traditional 7-fan bracing pattern so as to allow the top to vibrate more freely, and enhance the resonance of the Englemann spruce top.

For the cosmetics of the instrument, Enns took visual cues from the famous mezquita in Cordoba, which has been an inspiration and reference throughout Cordoba’s history. The beautiful, signature rosette was based on the mosque’s red arches.

Enns explains that “we wanted to design a guitar that combined a bit of the company’s past with where we are now, and maybe even gave a glimpse of where we are going in the future.”

The 20th Anniversary guitar indeed succeeds in honoring Cordoba’s history as a company, while also paying homage to the rich traditions of the classical guitar as a whole. It will become a treasured possession - and unique instrument - for the fortunate individual who acquires this eminently collectible guitar.
